We believe the best things in a home are rooted in tradition. Our slogan, “Traditional Goods for the Modern Home,” reflects our promise to bring time-honored homekeeping traditions into the way families live today.

Founded by husband-and-wife team John and Melissa, Colonial Merchant began with a simple question: Why should choosing products for our homes require spending so much time reading labels?

With a toddler and a dog at home, we wanted household products made with high-quality ingredients that fit naturally into the life of any family. We also wanted something simple: products inspired by traditional home remedies and housekeeping practices.

Passed Down Through Generations  

The story of Colonial Merchant is connected to family, history, and the traditions passed down through generations.

We drew inspiration from our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, friends, and historical accounts of early American homesteading. These sources gave us ideas for traditional household formulas that have been used through generations in America. That inspiration became the foundation for Colonial Merchant: handcrafted goods that bring familiar traditions into modern homes.

From household cleaners and laundry products to candles, soaps, and home fragrances, our collections are created with the idea that traditional homekeeping still has a place in everyday life.

What Goes Into Every Product 

For us, what goes into a product matters the most. Our products are made in small batches in Tennessee using thoughtfully selected ingredients such as olive oil, tallow, glycerin, vinegar, Castile soap, and apricot coconut wax.

We also leave out bleach, ammonia, phthalates, optical brighteners, artificial dyes, and paraffin wax, keeping our products rooted in traditional ingredients.

Colonial Merchant is proudly rooted in Tennessee. What began with a family looking for better choices for their own home has grown into a brand serving customers across the country. Every package we send represents a little piece of our story, from our home in Tennessee to yours.
