"A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens

Did you know...
Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol in a burst of inspiration, finishing the entire novella in just six weeks while taking long nighttime walks through London. When it was published on December 19, 1843, the first printing sold out in under a week, instantly becoming a holiday sensation. Dickens poured his heart into the project, insisting on beautiful binding and illustrations, even though it meant he earned very little from the first edition.
The story itself was born from Dickens’ desire to shine a light on the harsh realities of Victorian poverty, choosing a heartfelt tale over a political pamphlet to reach people more deeply. Its unforgettable characters and phrases — especially Scrooge’s iconic “Bah! Humbug!” — quickly entered everyday language. With its blend of ghosts, morality, and festive cheer, A Christmas Carol became one of the most beloved works in literary history and a timeless reminder of generosity and transformation.
